Every assignment has a rubric that explains exactly what you need to do to earn a completion for that assignment. Please get in the habit of viewing the rubric before you complete an assignment.

- Set-up your notifications and profile settings
- Take a survey using the Canvas Quiz tool

Module 1: Road to Photography
Module 1 Learning Objectives
- Identify the significance and explain the basic characteristics of the silhouette, cyanotype photogram, camera obscura, and photogenic drawing to the invention of photography
- Identify the contributions of John Herschel, Thomas Wedgewood, Anna Atkins, and Williams Henry Fox Talbot to the development and use of pre-photographic processes
- Critically reflect on the subjective nature of photographic meaning.

Module 2 Learning Objectives
- Visually decode a photograph.
- Identify the significance and explain the basic characteristics of the daguerreotype, calotype, heliography, and the latent image.
- Identify the contributions of Daguerre, Niépce, Talbot, and Bayard to the invention of photography.
- Discuss the problems involved with identifying ownership of inventions and other historical accomplishments.
- Examine the historical details and subject matter of one daguerreotype.

Module 3 Learning Objectives
- Explain the improvements that collodion brought to photography.
- Compare and contrast the daguerreotype and calotype processes with the wet plate processes (glass plate negative/albumen print, ambrotype, tintype).
- Explain the basic steps and identify the visual characteristics of albumen prints, ambrotypes, and tintypes.
- Describe the benefits and challenges with wet-plate processes.
- Evaluate how the human desire for portraits influenced the advancement of the photographic medium.
